Da Vinci Decoded

On 28 June 2006 Level Seven Forum was successfully launched. Around 60 people attended, representing a cross section of professionals. The Courthouse Hotel Kempinski on Great Marlborough Street in London buzzed with discussions and networking across professional sectors. The hotel provided the perfect surroundings for the launch, with a screening room where a trailer for the “Da Vinci Code” film was shown. A presentation on the topic: “Da Vinci Decoded; what does the popularity of the Da Vinci Code say about contemporary culture?” by speaker Grenville Kent followed. Grenville is a pastor, filmmaker and co-author of “The Da Vinci Decode”.

The discussion that followed the presentation portrayed a genuine interest in some of the challenging claims that Dan Brown, the author of the Da Vinci Code, puts forward. It became clear just how much the attendees longed to explore the topic further, as they moved through to the adjourning rooms where they continued their lively conversations while being served with mouth-watering refreshments and sweet canapés.

The interest to learn more about Level Seven Forum was expressed by Martin, who was in the process of moving to the continent, but very much hoped that similar events could be launched elsewhere in Europe. Carolyn, another guest, expressed: “we thought that the evening programme had gone very well indeed. Roll on lots more of those!” Rosemary sent her “Many congratulations on the successful launch of Level Seven. I thought the whole event was just right. Looking forward to our next meeting.” Judith expressed that same sentiment as she looked forward to the next initiative.

The evening also saw the launch of Level Seven’s website by the Tranzition Agency who provided small business cards to remind us of two upcoming events. Organiser Herta von Stiegel was very encouraged by the response to the launch and stated that this was just the beginning of similar evenings, where thinking people can come together and discuss challenging contemporary issues from a Christian perspective.
